CryptoPrevent is a tiny utility to lock down any Windows OS (XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1) to prevent infection by the Cryptolocker malware or ‘ransomware’, which encrypts personal files and then offers decryption for a paid ransom.
Incidentally, due to the way that CryptoPrevent works, it actually protects against a wide variety of malware, not just Cryptolocker!
There is no happy ending if you get infected with this software. If you get the virus, I can remove it. But the only way to unencrypt the files is to pay the virus writers their ransom. There is, however, software that will specifically prevent CryptoLocker from installing itself on your system. There are two versions, one that works as a one-off innoculation which you can download here.
This is available at no charge.
I have also bought the rights from the author (FoolishIT LLC) to the version which will upgrade itself as the author releases updates. This is installed as part of our virus removal and prevention services for a small additional charge.
While I can't guarantee that this will absolutely protect you against this virus, it does have the best chance that I know of. And both the author of this software and I feel very strongly that this virus is dangerous enough that we need to get the protection against it out as quickly and to as many people as we can.
